It depends on whether youre doing MP or SP In general, Slow Healer, Prone to Illness, High Thirst and Weak Stomach are probably the free-est traits. If you get -1 fitness from weight trait you'll need to be a Firefighter or else this trait is terrible and completely wasted. I'll start with the ones I've been able to determine: Feeble Obese Out of Shape Overweight Poor eyesight (uncertain, but open to others testing) Underweight Unfit Very Underweight Weak Community provided temporary traits: Waste of one point. Unlike in real life, being a smoker in Project Zomboid is not all that bad and doesn't cause any health risks. Yes thats right. Very useful for finding Axes and Sledgehammers. Finding rare weapons is a chore with this. -4 Fitness, Very Underweight: Very low strength, very low endurance and prone to injury. It's actually difficult to keep weight on my character with how much I jog around, which as I've found with the Minimal Display Bars mod, burns a ton of calories. Horrible. Tomatoes do have a reason to be grown in that they can be used in mouse traps (IDK why), however they're still bad because the plants grow too few tomatoes and take too long to grow in comparison to cabbage. High Thirst is great for a few extra points. Again you probably don't know how detection works in the game. Multiple presets can be made to save a combination of a profession and multiple other traits which offer utility to the players that are eager to get right into the action. I dont like smoker cause I hate micromanaging smokes, but if you dont mind it its pretty good too. And when You have 9 fitness it's not going to cause any problems, so probably even 4/5 if you have 9 fitness. So even if it was hard to level it would still be bad. This trait is pretty good for exactly the same reasons as underweight. Short Sighted: 4/5 I think even when it is functioning (I think it doesn't do anything right now). A great one to take with pacifist is Fast Learner as it will end up in a net positive multiplier for weapons. Since if you know what you're doing the only potential downside is noise, and many people don't care about noise in the first place (they drive quite noisy and/or poorly tuned vehicles). It's not just easy, but the benefit isn't a big deal. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Like I can be facing forward and hear an out-of-place moan and know that there's a zombie behind me but still not in my perception circle. Cigarettes are easy to find, and i think smoking every so often adds a neat little bit of immersion. I'll pose this question to you all so that a list may be compiled: what are all the negative traits that can go away with time? My opinions on each trait in the game I made in an ADHD fuelled frenzy. Why the hell did i think writing this was a good idea this took like an hour fuck AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Description - Increases reading speed and takes less time for books. I can just imagine wheezing around, unable to run, unable to carry much, struggling to fight off even a single zombie, having to hyper-focus on nutrition, and none of your skills will develop, yikes! You still can hear zombies that are sneaking up on you if you're actually listening to the game, the sound is just a bit muffled. If your character is lucky enough to live for a couple of months, claustrophobic will be completely gone. Just avoid getting fractures and you will barely notice you have the trait. You can really live without this one, 6 points is costly too. Underweight is your friend. Too expensive take hiker instead. Looking through the list, I think you got them all. Cooking is so useless taking this for -6 will hurt your character. Even for multiplayer. Scratches and Lacerations you can heal from but theres no coming back from bites. Its that easy. Play deaf, it's 12 free points. Gymnast - lightfooted helps with stealth which is meh, so it's 5 points for nimble, but it's totally worth. Overweight/Underweight can be remedied with the appropriate food intake, i think you can get desensitised after killing a shit-ton of zombies - not 100% sure tho. First aid is not. Don't have to mash the accelerator all the time. Prone to illness + outdoorsman somewhat cancel out for +2 points. No brainer. This will only really become a problem if you are playing in a multiplayer server. Wakeful. Gardener: 1/5. After about a week in-game you wont be struggling from this anymore. More annoying than anything, gives you less time in the day. Possibly the best perk you can take. Find the official Discord here: Free points. Conspicuous doesn't really make much of a difference; Zombies that look in your direction can and usually will spot you anyway. Sure, reading will be a bit slower that normal but when you can triple the speed of the game whenever you wish to skip the reading, it doesnt really matter. Being even drowsy drastically reduces your melee damage output. The critical chance of attacks is capped between 10% and 90%. Which negative traits do you guys usually pick? These skills suck as short blunt and spear will take longer to gain levels in. There really isnt a best build for the game. To play and make specific character builds in Project Zomboid, players must balance their builds with both positive and negative traits. I've never found food to be a massive issue in this game, just forage for a few hours and you'll have enough food for the week. Maybe useful when multiplayer releases, but until then this perk is basically useless. Description: Panic when performing first aid on self, cannot perform first aid on others, gets stressed when bloody. Not worth 1 extra point. Oh, you mean in game? Aside from exhaustion, sleepiness is the biggest danger as the more tired you get, the more your perception decreases. Character is going to be stressed all the time, and washing clothes wastes time and water (and sometimes becomes unavailable while away from base once water supply cuts out). Sleepyhead 1/5. May get you killed from sneaky back attack zombies. I like it, but more importantly a lot of other people consider it very useful as well. 4 & 5- Always worth considering when making a new character. May be worth it if its something you personally struggle with, or if it fits your playstyle. Comments are on moderation and will be approved in a timely manner. Water is easy to obtain. Panic cancels out boredom, turning claustrophobia into a big-brain strat. This one will really depend on the type of character you want to play and which version of the game you are playing. I'll start with the ones I've been able to determine: Feeble Obese Out of Shape Overweight Poor eyesight . I always like to see how other peoples play styles since the game is so customizable. Can be overcome when you build up your stealth skills. I also guess I value stealth over survival more than you do lol, I do agree tho there are some things I didn't consider, like with organised. It might even be less than 1 per second. It makes getting bitten extremely easy. Pair with cowardly (or agoraphobic) and you have a very speedy character. Dont take this. One thing that I didnt take into account when making that list is the fact that to pick these positive traits, youre going to have to take some hits. If you gain enough weight, you won't be "underweight" anymore ; if you lvl up your strenght skill enough, you'll go from "weak" to "feeble", or from "feeble" to nothing (5 fitness) and so on.
